Campus House Technology Update

Technology affects our lives and careers more and more with each passing year.  The hospitality industry is especially affected by the pervasive use of technology, especially as guests and customers become accustomed to having information available to them, fast.  Whether it is internet recipes or pictures of food, real-time updates of restaurant menus, or even online takeout orders, availability of dining and mealtime information is becoming quicker and more accessible by the minute.

Campus House prides itself, not only as a world-class private club and dining facility, but also as a cutting-edge student-learning laboratory.   This means giving students the tools to keep them as up-to-date with current hospitality technologies.  Just this semester alone, Campus House has implemented some of the latest advancements in computer-based dining and service tools to enrich both the learning potential in the classroom/learning lab and to enhance the guest experience.

Campus House has begun to make extensive use personal tablets to track guest orders and checks.   Student servers can input guest orders directly into handheld tablets, where information is immediately linked to the kitchen so orders can be prepared promptly and correctly.

In addition, Campus House is piloting a program to test out TabbedOut, a new cell phone app that will allow customers to securely pay their dining checks directly from their table.  TabbedOut is already used by a number of area businesses, allowing customers more control over their dining experience.  With TabbedOut, guests will have the ability to view their running total at any time during the meal, securely pay their bill, and leave at their own leisure instead of waiting for the check to arrive.  Campus House will formally announce its utilization of TabbedOut as soon it is fully functional at the club.

TabbedOut will alleviate the anxiety of splitting a check with just a few taps or clicks -- it will be much faster and easier than juggling a pile of friends’ and co-workers’ credit cards when it comes time to pay the bill.   TabbedOut will  also eliminate the need to leave a credit card at the bar when opening a tab.

In addition, guests would potentially have the opportunity to provide immediate feedback through TabbedOut for their Campus House experiences.  This will help the staff track both compliments and service or food requests that will improve everyone’s experience.

For club members and guests who are interested in previewing the program -- TabbedOut is a free app and they do not charge hidden fees.  Getting TabbedOut is easy -- just visit the app store on an Apple or Android smartphone and search “tabbedout.”  After downloading the free TabbedOut app on an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Android device, open the app and create an account with the email and password of choice.  Members will then have the option of adding a picture of himself or herself – viewable by the club or restaurant - to further increase security.  Once an account is created, members can securely input preferred credit card information.  When visiting the chosen establishment, guests should open the app and open a new tab.  The app will give the guest a code to show the server or bartender.  More information is available at www.tabbedout.com

We look forward to seeing you soon at Campus House, where you will experience both a high-tech and world-class service.
